Dogs in Wood - Tom Benson
Tom Benson's wood sculpture dogs appear in the form of useful and winsome home decor — functional pieces with drawers or clock works, or fashioned to hold your rolls of bathroom tissue or paper towels. As a former aerospace engineer, I am obsessed with the technical aspects of my work, like the secret compartments I sometimes include, or the way some pieces are designed and laid out. The challenge of creating the physiology of an animal and then investing it with a personality beyond the often-idealized "noble beast" is the inspiration behind my work. Tom Benson's work has been featured on HGTV and is represented by such galleries as Gallery One in Naples and Jungle Drums Gallery (both in Florida), American Craftsman in New York, and the Aurora Gallery in Anchorage, Alaska. His pieces have also just recently been selected to be included in the new mammal wing of the Smithsonian Institute. We found his irresistable pups at RawStyle.com. |
